Damon's Visit - Day 5 (Last Day)

It is Damon's last day and we spent most of the day with Sophie and Gabriel - the children I nanny for. It was probably good though, because he needed some rest time. Took the kids to the park etc.

Then home for some pasta dinner and in to the city to Old Melbourne Goal for the "Hangman's night time tour"

Damon standing in front of  where the hangings took place!!!

                                                                        In a cell

                                                                     Scared !!!!!!!!
                                                                 Seemed to have recovered!!!

After they were hanged they would cut off their heads and make a death mask. These are moulds of the masks.

                                                                     Ned Kelly's gun

                                                            Ned Kelly's Death Mask

So an amazing thing happened on the way home from the Goal. After our taxi ride the other night and Damon took note of the rego number -  he has been checking all the cabs we see to see if he will see it again. Well you will never believe it..... but he saw the it....the  cab that we caught was in front of us........out of all the thousands that there are in Melbourne he actually saw the same cab again........amazing!!!!!

So that was it.....our last venture in Melbourne together. Now to bed as we have to get up at 6am for Damon to catch his flight at 8.30am.

His was on the Jetstar plane that had a big Powderfinger advertisement on it...pretty cool

See Ya Mate.....I'm going to miss you :-(

Till next time

Damon's Visit Day 4

First very important stop today was a coffee for me!!!!! So many cafes to choose from, I am still being a bit of a tourist trying them all out. Haven't really found my place yet :-) So I guess I cant say I am a local yet??

                                                      Damon ready?.......oh ...clearly not!!!

                                                             Ok ready..... that's lovely

Went to Brighton Beach to check out the coloured Beach Huts - also know as Bathing Boxes. We picked out a few we liked to have out photo taken with.
Knew his mum would like this one!!!

Damon didn't mind the boxing kangaroo - very patriotic

I thought this one was cute.....Damon didn't know why!!! must have been the red and white stripes          based on the Dragons patriotism!!!

                                                                Another one I liked

We both liked this one because it was taller then the others

I thought I would take Damon to Pure Pop records where I have been a few time to have a drink and listen to live music. It is just down the road in St Kilda. Sunday afternoons they have about 3 or 4 acts on for about and hour each. Unfortunately we arrived at 3pm and first act wasn't till 4pm so after an hours wait ( i was ok I had a wine!!!!) we were hoping the first fella was going to be good. Well he wasnt our cup of tea....the music was a bit depressing and he kinda wailed!!!!!

So we left........went and had some dumplings and noodles in Ackland st.

Then later that evening we went to St Kilda Pier to see the Little Blue Penguins (Fairy) at dusk . We had no idea what to expect, so arrived in plenty of time. So the younger penguins are already tucked in amongst the rocks waiting for the adults to come back and feed them. The closer to dark it gets they start calling out ........can we use the word 'chirp'. Unfortunately my cameras battery had died at this point so I will add some of the photos Damon took once he forwards them to me. Here is a photo I found on the internet to give you an idea.
Drawcards: Penguin in silhouette at St Kilda, where the little birds attract crowds of up to 1500 people a night.
Photo: Ken Irwin

So at about 8.30pm we had to leave the Penguins -  unfortunately after only seeing a few of the adults come in....gets dark late down here in Melbourne so we couldn't wait any longer as we had to drive to the city to go up Sky Deck.

Eureka Sky Deck at night was just amazing. Here is a photo that we had done in what they call the edge. It is a glass box that moves out 3 metres from the building.

Damon thought he better take the opportunity to eat an icecream 300m above the ground

bit blurry  - sorry about that!!!

So a great day had and now home for a hot chocolate.

Till tomorrow

Damon's Visit - Day 3

Today we went to famous Queen Victoria Markets. Had a wander around the seafood, meat, delicatessens, fruit and veggies and general goods sections. Damon purchased a couple of things which I can't say because they are gifts for family members. He also bought a memento for himself which I was so fascinated with watching, that I completely forgot to take a photo while it was getting done. But I have included a photo below so you can see. It is very cool!!!

We made a bit of a plan in case we lost each other.....so many people!!

How many types of sausages can there be??

Pleasure doing business with you sir!

Just looking.

Mmmmmm yummo!

Had to buy some of this.......after I taste tested about 10!!!!!!!!

Strawberry milkshake....blah, I am soooooo full!

My Melbourne momento.

So after the markets when walked about 7 blocks away to the Melbourne Museum. The big white building was the Exhibition Hall which was opposite the museum. It was HUGE and beautiful. I would love to go inside. Didn't look like we could so I will look into this and maybe visit on another day.

Yes you can just see Damon under the water drops on the other side of the fountain.

Hey look at this exhibit.....it's Damon!!

Bower bird.

Bower birds courting arena.

A finch

Went in here for a little bit of sex education. Saw a video on childbirth!!!

This room has to be seen to be believed.

A kiwi

Extinct Tasmanian tiger

This is the Koala that was in all the papers receiving a drink of water from a fire fighter during Victoria's black Saturday fires. He died of a disease. :-(

There was amazing displays of minerals and crystals. This was one I liked.

Watched an awesome 3D movie on Volcanoes.

Python.

So now we are in Lygon Street (Italian district), just chilling in the park waiting for it to get dark so we can watch the free outdoor screening of Yogi Bear. We went and had some pasta (forgot to take a photo sorry, and shared some gelato)

So made our way back home. Ended up on a tram that went via St Kilda so we jumped off and checked out Luna Park.

And then walked past the famous cake shops in Ackland Street.

You can walk to my place from here but we were tired and didn't want to walk the dark streets so we jumped in a cab.......Damon was very happy about this. He even took down the rego number to keep a look out to see if we see the same cab again.

Hot chocolate when we got home and thankfully bed....it's exhausting being a tourist!

Till tomorrow
