Melbourne Cup

So I can now say I have been to the Melbourne Cup........yay!!!!!

Had a fantastic day. Enjoyed with great company, some bubbles, interesting people, amazing fashion to look at and topped it all off with an evening in the city at a bar on the Yarra river and then the Crown casino.

The bar we went to was called Riverland and was located below Federation Square in what is referred to as the vaults. They were built in 1889 and are right on the banks of the Yarra river.

When at the Crown Casino we arrived just in time to watch a spectacular flame show which I had no idea they did. No one had ever mentioned it and I had not come across it in any of the Melbourne guides. It was amazing and if you are ever in Melbourne I recommend it.

The crown also had some fabulous areas set up specially for the Melbourne Cup. Here is one area that was outside on the boardwalk with thousands of flowers. The girls in the photo were the fabulous pair, Lee-Ann and Jeanine, who I had the pleasure to spend my first (and their first) Melbourne Cup with.

Once at the casino there were so many bars to choose from. We decided on the Attrium bar and actually managed to score a couple chairs which we were soooooo thankful for because our feet were beginning to scream at us after being in high heels for about 10 hours by this stage.

So getting back to the Cup.......

We caught the train and were immediately caught up in the excitement.

Lee- Ann was the only winner for the day with a third place. We were a bit disappointed because where we were watching the race from we couldn't hear the race being called, or read the horse numbers on the screen, so we had no idea who was leading, winning etc!!! Oh well, never mind it was still great to experience the atmosphere.

We spent most of our time in an area called the Banks - which was great. We arrived a bit later than most (Jeanine was caught up in the Qantas debacle) and couldn't find a table or even chairs, but managed to chat up a security guy who went and sourced us a chair each. We sat ourselves within great view of the gigantic screen and right next to the Yellowglen bar. Perfect!!! Bubbles anyone?

Just so that we knew we were in Melbourne it start to rain in the afternoon. Lucky we slipped in a couple of umbrellas for just such an occasion.

So by the end of the day I had blisters on my feet that will fade, but memories that will last a lifetime.

I am a lucky lucky girl.

Ok ok, so I know I have a couple of weeks to catch up on but I was putting off writing an entry because I had SO much catching up to do. I will do a catch up entry soon but wanted to share my special day yesterday with you all.
If you want to see more photos from the day they are all on Facebook.

Till next time
